We are very proud of our Music Ministry here at St. James. We offer different styles striving to encourage all to consider becoming part of one or more groups.
THE TRADITIONAL CHOIR
The Traditional Choir leads and enhances the congregational singing at the Saturday
4PM Mass. The Choir also plays a very important part in the Solemn Christmas
and Holy Week Liturgies. No musical experience is required. If you enjoy singing,
please consider joining this group. It is made up of a group of people who genuinely
care for each other and look forward to seeing each other at practice sessions
and Mass. For our members, the Traditional Choir is a place of belonging where
we can share our diverse talents and bring something extra to each liturgy we
take part in. The sincere affection of our members for each other is reflected
in the quality of our contribution to St. James’ spiritual life. The choir is
composed of many voices joining together in unison, yet sounding as one. We
enjoy singing and blending our voices with each other to form one “Choir Voice”.
We request that members be able to dedicate themselves to our Monday evening
practices in the Music Room from 6:15 to 7:45 and worship with us at our Masses.
Our choir is open to all from high school sophomores to senior citizens and
every age in between. Come, sing with us! For additional information, please
contact the Director of Music at 869-3130, Extension 308.
THE CONTEMPORARY MUSIC GROUP
The Contemporary Music Group is a music ensemble of vocalists and instrumentalists
who lead our assembly in Worship at the 10 o’clock Mass on the second and fourth
Sundays of each month as well as several other liturgical celebrations during
the year. The music at this Mass enables the assembly to be active participants
in the Mass by encouraging those who gather together to also join together in
song. This group rehearses before their Masses on Sundays. We are always seeking
to expand our group. If you would like further information on becoming part
of the group please call the music office at 869-3130, Extension 308. Your name
will be given to the Director of the group who will be in contact with you.
THE YOUTH BAND
This group leads the assembly with music geared to young adults at the 1PM Youth
Mass each Sunday. If you play any instruments come add those sounds to our Youth
Masses. Singers and instrumentalists always needed. If you would like to offer
you talents to this group, speak to Tina McCann, Youth Mass Music Director after
Mass or you can call the music office at 869-3130, Extension 308 to leave your
name and number and a short message. Your call will be returned in a timely
fashion.
4PM “SUMMER CHOIR”
As the Traditional Choir ends their season each year, we realize that many could
not be part of that group due to not being able to commit weekly rehearsals.
we now have a yearly SUMMER CHOIR for ANYONE who would like to be a part of
the choir at Mass. All we ask is for you to just show up at 3:30 in the East
wing for a quick run through of the music for the day. This is a great way for
those who have thought of becoming a choir member but can’t make the commitment
to the weekly Monday night rehearsals. We hear some wonderful voices singing
at Mass and hope that you will consider becoming part of the Summer Choir. All
voices, regardless of age or vocal ability are invited to come and sing with
a great group of fellow parishioners. No audition or advance notice is needed!
Simply “Show up” and join the choir!
RESURRECTION CHOIR
This choir is made up of a faithful group of parishioners that provide Music
at our funeral liturgies. Please consider joining this group, which provides
comfort and support to families during trying times. Members are notified of
upcoming funerals through a phone chain calling system. Just call the music
office at 869-3130, Extension 308 and leave your name and number and a message
that you want to be added to the list. This is a great service as many funerals
have a small number of family members and the choirs support is comforting to
them.
